I'm on the quest that started with the widow in anchosaur. I am a venomancer at level 24.

I tried doing magic spells on the Elder tortoise and he didn't take any damage at all. Is this a bug or is he resistant to me?

May be a bug...


...unless you're attacking him from land without having a pet for him to damage.

If that's the case he'll continue to reset because he can't hit you. Train a sawfly or turtle (the level 21 ones on the other side of the city can solo him with healing), or persuade a blademaster or barbarian to do it for you.

I went with a group afterwards and I couldn't tell if I was doing any damage.

The first time, basically I was in the water and not doing any damage..
Either the thing is resistant to my water attacks.. hmm....
Can a sawfly hit things in the water?

Hmm I see this quest is going to be fun. requires me to have a healer on hand who also needs the quest done.

Actually best to have a healer whom needs this quest done as well be with you.

I lured him as close to shore as possible, then had Golem attack, while I healed. Worked quite well.

I am a level 23 Barbarian and I put the tortoise down alone, took me all my mana and a mana potion to do it tho...
